With summer travel<\/a> already in full swing, Fox News Digital spoke to experts to learn some of their tricks and tips for making sure that a checked bag arrives safely to its destination.<\/p>\n Airports are busier than they have been in years, meaning there are a lot more people who will be checking bags on their flights.\u00a0<\/p>\n Here is what travel experts recommend doing \u2014 and avoiding \u2014 so that a vacation does not begin by waiting in a line at a lost luggage office at the airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n 5 SECRET SUMMER-TRAVEL PACKING HACKS TO MAXIMIZE CARRY-ON SPACE AND MINIMIZE STRESS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Check out these four tips.<\/p>\n \u201cDirect flights<\/a> are the best bet if you want your luggage to get to the right destination,\u201d Richard Campbell, founder of Calgary-based travel company 10Adventures, told Fox News Digital via email.\u00a0<\/p>\n If a direct flight is not possible and a bag has to be checked, Campbell recommended having at least 90 minutes between flights.\u00a0<\/p>\n To avoid losing checked bags, fly direct if possible, said one travel expert \u2014 or at the very least, do not book a tight connection.\u00a0<\/span> (Dustin Chambers\/Bloomberg via Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIf I have two or more stopovers, I assume I won\u2019t get my luggage when I get to my final destination,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Nikita Kosholkin, co-founder and CMO of the tool App in the Air, told Fox News Digital that he personally is OK with a 45-minute layover, but also noted, \u201cIt\u2019s better if it\u2019s over an hour.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY? IT COULD BE ILLEGAL TO BRING ALONG THESE MEDICATIONS, ACCORDING TO A PHARMACIST<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThere is a limited amount of time that a bag can actually travel due to logistics at the airport,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEven if you can make your next flight, your bag might not.\u201d<\/p>\n Packing lightly, even for a checked bag, can actually help ensure that a bag makes it to its destination, Jeremy Murchland, president of Seven Corners Travel Insurance, told Fox News Digital. The company is based in Indiana<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n A person who overpacks may wind up scrambling at the check-in gate to make sure a bag is under the weight limit \u2014 something Murchland said is \u201cjust asking for problems.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Overweight bags can be taken to a different part of the airport, an expert told Fox News Digital \u2014 increasing the chance that it will get lost.<\/span> (Mario Tama\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYou\u2019ll lose items in the shuffle or perhaps damage them if they aren\u2019t repacked securely. Plus, you\u2019re now stuck juggling loose belongings that you might not have even needed in the first place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Additionally, a bag that is oversized or heavy is not treated the same way as standard-sized bags, he said. THIS VACATION<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAny time your luggage has to be routed differently or go through a different process than normal, you run a higher risk of losing your bag, so stay within the recommended limits set by your airline,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many suitcases look similar \u2014 which means that someone who is not careful may go home with someone else\u2019s things.\u00a0<\/p>\n Adding a luggage strap or sticker to a \u201cbasic black suitcase\u201d can help make it stand out, multiple experts told Fox News Digital.\u00a0<\/span> (iStock)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAfter a transatlantic flight, everybody is tired, and it\u2019s so easy to grab the wrong suitcases at the luggage carousel,\u201d said Campbell.\u00a0<\/p>\n To avoid this, Campbell puts stickers on both sides of his \u201cbasic black suitcase,\u201d as well as a yellow pompom \u2014 which he puts away as soon as he collects his bag.\u00a0<\/p>\n Dominic Brown, a Richmond-based food and travel blogger, also uses identifiers on his luggage.\u00a0<\/p>\n CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWhether I\u2019m traveling domestically or abroad<\/a>, I use luggage straps to ensure that my luggage does not get lost in the airport,\u201d he told Fox News Digital in an email.\u00a0<\/p>\n These straps, he said, help make his suitcase stand out from other \u201cbasic colored suitcase sets.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Brown, who owns the website TallTravelEats, has traveled across several continents \u2014 and told Fox News Digital that since he began using luggage straps, he has not lost a bag during his travels.\u00a0<\/p>\n AirTags, or similar tracking products, can help a traveler find their bags after a long day of travel.<\/span> (Apple)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n But Brown warned that to avoid any surprises at the airport, a traveler should ensure that the luggage straps are TSA-approved.\u00a0<\/p>\n Another suggestion is that travelers consider using AirTags<\/a> or other similar tracking products to make sure their bags make it onto the plane.\u00a0<\/p>\n AirTags, made by Apple, have to be set up with an iPhone or iPad, but the product can be tracked using an app that is available in the Google Play store.\u00a0<\/p>\n CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Other tracking devices such as Tile are not tied to a particular operating system.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cLuggage will get lost, and often the airlines have no idea where it is,\u201d said Campbell.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI want to help them out, so I use AirTags, so I can find a lost piece of luggage and show it to the airline.\u201d<\/p>\n For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com\/lifestyle<\/strong><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n1.
